Sostrin Client Spotlight - Dr. Jeremiah Hayanga

For Dr. Jeremiah Hayanga, public health is more than a professional interest – it is an issue that has deeply affected him, his family, and his community. In his native Kenya, Dr. Hayanga saw the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 80’s and 90’s claim thousands of lives, including many of his own relatives. This inspired Dr. Hayanga’s lifelong dedication to giving the indigenous tribal African community a greater voice in global conversations about public health.

Dr. Hayanga’s medical training has taken him around the world. After high school in Nairobi, he studied medicine and earned his M.D. at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before pursuing surgical training at institutions around the U.S., including Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan, and University of Washington. Since then, he has worked as a surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University.

Today, Dr. Hayanga is widely known as a leader in cardiothoracic surgery, lung transplantation and the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.  He has performed lifesaving procedures on dozens of critically ill patients. His international medical training has given him a unique perspective on global health issues, and he is a passionate advocate for improving healthcare in underserved parts of the world by investing in medical infrastructure and empowering local health professionals.

Sostrin Immigration Lawyers has had the honor of working with Dr. Hayanga since 2013. We helped him secure multiple O-1 visas as well as his green card, and we are proud to say that he will be naturalized as a U.S. citizen within the next few months.
