U.S. Lifts Country-Based Travel Restrictions, Effective November 8, 2021

On October 25, 2021, the White House confirmed that it will lift country-based travel restrictions due to COVID-19, effective at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on November 8, 2021.

Instead, the U.S. will restrict air travel into the country for noncitizens who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Noncitizens who are not fully vaccinated must provide proof of pre-departure testing for COVID-19; take precautions during air travel, such as wearing a face mask; provide proof of post-arrival testing for COVID-19; and provide proof of self-quarantine arrangements post-arrival; among other health precautions.

This suspension and limitation on entry applies only to air travelers to the United States and does not affect visa issuance.

The White House first told reporters of this plan in September 2021.
