USCIS Will Issue Notices of Action to Replace Sticker That Extends Validity of Green Cards

On January 12, 2021, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that they will be issuing I-797 Notices of Action to replace the sticker that is currently issued to lawful permanent residents to extend the validity of their Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (PRC or “Green Card”).

Beginning January 2021, permanent residents who file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, to replace or renew a Green Card will receive a revised Form I-797, Notice of Action, that will serve as a receipt notice for the Form I-90 and provide evidence of an extension.

The revised Notice of Action can be presented with an expired Green Card as evidence of lawful permanent resident status, as well as of employment and travel authorization. Applicants who file a Form I-90 to replace an expiring Green Card should receive the revised Form I-797 7-10 days after USCIS accepts their application.
