Sostrin Client Spotlight - Alethea Jones

Since her short film Lemonade Stand won first place at Tropfest – the world’s largest short film festival – in Australia in 2012, film and television director and Sostrin client Alethea Jones has had the opportunity to work with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones and Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant.
After her Tropfest award win, Ms. Jones spent two years flying back and forth between Los Angeles and her native Australia before her agent convinced her to move to L.A. full-time. The move paid off almost immediately – Ms. Jones was nominated for a DGA Award for her work on one of her first projects in the U.S., the television series Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street. Since then, Ms. Jones’ career has continued to move at a breakneck speed.
In 2017, Ms. Jones premiered her first feature film, Fun Mom Dinner, at the iconic Sundance Film Festival. The comedy film, with an ensemble cast that included Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, and Adam Scott, was subsequently picked up by Netflix. The next year, Ms. Jones was featured in Vogue Australia as one of several Australians achieving success in Hollywood. She has also directed episodes for a myriad of acclaimed television series, such as Lodge 49, for which Entertainment Weekly selected her episode “Circles” as one of the 30 best TV episodes in 2019, Dispatches from Elsewhere, Made for Love, and Evil.
Today, Ms. Jones lives in Los Angeles with her husband, sound designer PK Hooker. She is currently directing three episodes of Sharon Horgan's Shining Vale, starring Oscar nominee Greg Kinnear, Courteney Cox (of Friends fame), and Oscar winner Mira Sorvino. Afterwards, she will direct the finale of Season 2 of Dollface, starring Kat Dennings, star of the sitcom 2 Broke Girls.
Sostrin Immigration Lawyers has had the honor of assisting Ms. Jones with several O-1 visas and, most recently, obtaining permanent residence. We are always excited to work with such talented individuals, and we look forward to watching her next projects come to life!
