Sostrin Client Spotlight - Dr. Christoffel Le Roux

As an addiction psychiatrist, Sostrin client Christoffel Le Roux, M.D. works to help care for people with the disease of addiction.

Dr. Le Roux began his career in his native South Africa, receiving his medical degree from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town.  He then continued his education in the United States, completing psychiatry residencies at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California; along with fellowships in addiction psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry at Emory University.

It was during residency training, Dr. Le Roux explains, that he “became interested in the relative simplicity involved with caring for people with the disease of addiction.”

While addiction might strike most people as a more complex than simple issue, Dr. Le Roux breaks recovery down into six core domains, with an emphasis on improved self-management and safe and uplifting connection.

Dr. Le Roux has, throughout his career, held positions as Addiction Psychiatrist at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, and Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University.

With more than a decade of experience as a practicing addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Le Roux has come to deeply understand his field, which, he says, “has made working in the field very easy and enjoyable.”

Still, he continues, “As you can imagine, the more challenging part of this process is helping patients to be ready for this. As we say, you can order cooperation, but you cannot order readiness.”

After many years spent in the U.S. building his distinguished career and reputation, Dr. Le Roux points out the positive impression his American coworkers have made on him, explaining “the nurses and support staff I have encountered over the years, have been nothing short of excellent.”

Sostrin Immigration Lawyers has had the honor of working with Dr. Le Roux and his family since 2014, through an H-1B, the permanent residence process, and most recently, with the naturalization process.  We are thrilled to have worked with such a dedicated psychiatrist and wish him and his family the best.
