Sostrin Client Spotlight - Dr. Salvador Gullo Neto

Sostrin client Dr. Salvador Gullo Neto is no stranger to patient safety. He has more than 20 years of experience as a doctor and surgeon in his native Brazil and has been working on a patient safety mobile application for the past three years. After frequently coming up against healthcare rules and processes such as fee-for-service that he did not think were optimal, Dr. Gullo Neto decided to pursue a new career direction utilizing modern technology to improve healthcare management.
“This is not sustainable,” Dr. Gullo Neto explains. “Quality and safety in healthcare should be a real goal and not just a banner on the wall. And this was the reason I started working as a healthcare manager. If you believe that things should be different, start working for it.”
Through the application SAFETY4ME, Dr. Gullo Neto is tackling one of the leading causes of death in the United States: medical errors. Patients using the app can play a game about patient safety while they are receiving healthcare services. While utilizing the application, patients learn how to protect themselves from harm and generate data that outpatient clinics, hospitals, and health insurance companies can use to improve their institutions.
Dr. Gullo Neto drew on his extensive background in medicine and research to create SAFETY4ME. He earned his medical degree from Pontificia Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), then completed his residency in general surgery and additional training in digestive surgery and transplantation of abdominal organs. He went on to perform several roles with PUCRS, including as a physician and surgeon at Hospital São Lucas da PUCRS, Head of the Transplant Services, and Assistant Professor. Today, in addition to his work on SAFETY4ME, he is a Visiting Scholar/Faculty Member at the San Diego State University’s School of Nursing and conducts academic research on medical errors.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to draw attention to patient care quality and safety, empowering patients is more important than ever. Dr. Gullo Neto is working hard to make sure that patients are properly armed with the tools they need to protect themselves. “With the right information you can take action and protect yourself from harm,” Dr. Gullo Neto says. “Providing high quality information is the best way to empower people, especially during a sanitary crisis like this pandemic that we are living in.”
Sostrin Immigration Lawyers recently helped Dr. Gullo Neto obtain an O-1 visa. We feel very lucky to represent someone addressing such an important problem and eagerly await his future endeavors.
