$100,000 H-1B Fee Update/Possible Exception for Physicians

Immigration lawyers have had a busy weekend following the announcement by the White House that H-1Bs will be subject to a $100,000 fee. We are still working through the details, and it now appears that the fee would be imposed on new petitions and does not apply to anyone with a current approved or pending H-1B. Additional changes may be coming, as litigation efforts are in the works.

In the meantime, some welcome news for doctors, as according to Bloomberg, there may be a blanket exemption from the $100,000 fee for physicians. There is a dire shortage of physicians in the U.S., particularly those practicing primary care medicine, and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) play a critical role in alleviating this shortage.
