DHS Ends Automatic Extensions of Most Employment Authorization Documents
On October 29, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced an interim final rule ending the automatic extension of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for certain individuals who are filing renewal applications.
Beginning on October 30, 2025, individuals who file to renew their EADs will no longer receive an automatic extension of employment authorization. This rule does not affect EAD extension applications filed before October 30 or EAD categories that may have a separate rule governing employment authorization.
